Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of a remarkable man — Andy Gildea.
In December of 2018, our caucus was blessed to have Andy Gildea join us as Chief of Staff. His guidance, determination, and good cheer were without equal. Always prepared with a one-liner, Andy possessed unparalleled political skills and an eagerness to be in the arena. His support of Representatives Steve Drazkowski, Tim Miller, Cal Bahr, and Jeremy Munson was steadfast. Such friendship meant a great deal to each member.
During his twelve months with our caucus, Andy was the leader of a small but spirited staff. His direction, intelligence, and thoughtfulness brought out the best in everyone. Central to his efforts with our caucus was his mentorship of others. Andy’s readiness to teach and train those at the beginning of their careers was more generous than he knows. No one could ask for a better mentor. In so many ways, he brought joy and encouragement to our team.
Throughout his extraordinary life, Andy conquered the political landscape. He worked for Congressmen in Washington, D.C., and rose to the highest ranks of staff in Minnesota’s House of Representatives. Never afraid of a political fight, Andy served as a lead strategist for Governor Tim Pawlenty’s first gubernatorial campaign. Among his many accomplishments, Andy led his wife’s successful campaigns for Chief Justice of Minnesota’s Supreme Court.
More than that, Andy was a wonderful friend, mentor, and man. A testament to a life well-lived, Andy’s friendship is known from Virginia to Washington, D.C., to Minnesota and many places beyond.
We give thanks to God for giving us His servant, Andy Gildea. Our prayers are with his wife, Lorie, his family, and all those lucky enough to have known him.
